Music lessons can incorporate a variety of approaches depending on student preference and abilities. Some students love to read notation. I encourage these students to develop auditory skills through imitation games and improvisation. Other students play by ear and prefer to memorize all pieces. The individual student's age and purpose for study (what they want to get out of the lessons) also plays into any chosen methodology.
