 I have also taught general music from kindergarten up through 5th grade, and assisted bands at the university level.  My performance experience has taken me to many wonderful places--College bowl games and the NCAA Tournaments to international hotspots such as Bogota, Columbia and even as far away as China.  I have also been fortunate enough to perform with musical icons such as Doc Severinson, Mariachi Cobre, Byron Stripling, John Fedchock, Bobby Shew, Five by Design, Club Swing, the Harry James Orchestra, Andre Williams, and notable groups such as the Las Cruces Symphony Orchestra, Phil Campo and the "Loose Change" Jazz band, the Salt Lake Alternative Jazz Orchestra, and many others. I'm a recently graduated student from Longy School of Music of Bard College with a Master Degree in Clarinet Performance. I started my musical career while been a College student in my native country, Cuba. My performing experience has been very varied, from the Cuban Clarinet Quartet Ebanos de La Habana to the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba and the Ballet and Opera Orchestra of Havana. Once in the United States I had the opportunity to attend to the Woodwind International Festival in Pella Iowa and been part of the Longy Conservatory Orchestra and held concerts with chamber groups and clarinet quartets, also playing in gigs around Boston Area with a clarinet and guitar Duet. I like to create lessons in which students learn to read traditional music notation, develop technique, and play familiar tunes. I use musictheory.net to help student practice reading note names. The faster a student can read musical notation, the faster the student can pick up new pieces. To develop technique, I want students to lean scales and arpeggios. Sometimes, we use a technique book to develop muscle memory, and other times technical exercises are created based on the tricky musical passages of solo or ensemble pieces. Read More

The methods through which I choose to teach vary based on each student and instrument. The individual student's age and purpose for study (what they want to get out of the lessons) also plays into any chosen methodology. What I am certain of and what I am consistant in teaching all of my students is a mastery of performance fundamentals as well as at least a rudimentary understanding of music theory. Read More
