Depending upon the students goals I like to take the approach of introducing harmony at a point in which that student is proficient on the open chords of the guitar and scales in the first position. I approach music from four perspectives in order to create an integrated foundation that caters to the learning methods of my students. My method is very simple: First and foremost I ask what kind of music my students like to listen to. Using this as a format I gradually add theoretical concepts to the extent the student is able to broaden his or her understanding of what they like.
