I use both classics and popular songs to teach reading, theory, ear-training, and improvisation. I teach all of my lessons differently- custom tailoring each one to the students (and parent's) wants, needs, and personal learning style. Having taken lessons on several instruments and being self-taught on others I understand that the most important thing a teacher can instill in their student is 1) the basic knowledge to understand the instrument, and 2) the passion to discover and teach themselves. I can come up with suggestions as much as you'd like, but my favorite lessons are the ones where a student has his or her own goal, and I'm able to help them achieve this goal in some way.
