2012 - University of the Arts School of Muisc - Bass Award + Jazz Award
Overview:
I am a jazz and contemporary bassist living in Philadelphia. I have over a decade of private lesson experience and college level teaching experience at universities in the United States, Canada, and Eastern Europe. I teach both acoustic upright bass and electric bass. I perform full time across the east coast and occasionally travel to play and teach in other countries. I received my graduate degree from the University of the Arts in 2013 and teach lessons at my home studio in PHILADELPHIA as well as online.
EXPERIENCE
I have taught private lessons for a number of years. I also have college level teaching experience in multiple countries in North America and Europe. I have taught students of all ages and levels of experience. I have students who are professionals in the industry and those who play just for fun. I am happy to teach students any style they are interested in learning, but I make sure that each student is not only trained to be technically proficient on the instrument, but also train to possess high-level qualities of musicianship.
METHODS USED
I focus on different elements in each lesson. Good technique is always worked on in each lesson. I also encourage my students to learn to read music starting with various etude books of my choosing. Each lesson incorporates music theory as it relates to the subject of discussion. I also train my students to think with their ears incorporating ear training exercises, improvisation, and encouraging students to learn by ear. Much of my lesson structure and the overall progression of lessons is designed around each individual student.
LESSON STYLE
Each lesson is the continuation of the previous lesson. It as all about progress over time. In the very first lesson I get to know the student and where they are musically. After this I can determine a course of action to best fit the students needs. Each lesson begins focused on a particular concept and then can branch out from there. Every new subject is always readdressed in the following lesson. I listen to my students and choose the best approach to helping them to be inspired to learn and grow as an artist and musician.
