Overview:
Coming from a family of musicians and teachers, I seemed destined to become a music teacher. While still in high school, I started teaching guitar and bass guitar to friends and classmates. From the age of 18 I started touring with bands, as well as doing recording studio sessions work. I finished college in 1992 with a degree from Musician's Institute, and performance certificates from the Berklee College of Music as well as the Peabody Conservatory. I continue do occasional recording and touring, but my true focus has always been being the best teacher I can!
EXPERIENCE
Coming from a family of musicians, I seemed destined to become a music teacher. I started teaching friends and classmates while still in high school, and continued to help tutor fellow students in college. Upon graduation, I was hired by a teaching studio in Greenville SC, and within two years I was the head teacher for the entire studio. I have moved on to larger studios since then, but almost 30 years later my focus is still the same: Whether the student is an absolute beginner just starting to explore a new hobby, or an experience player looking to improve song writing, improvisation, and technique, my goal is to help that student be the best they can be, as efficiently as possible.
METHODS USED
For students over the age of 12, I have developed my own curriculum that focusses on helping them learn the instrument from the ground up. I teach them the theory of the instrument by using familiar songs as examples. So not only has the student learned to play a song, but also he can see the logic of why it works in a way that is immediately applicable and understandable. These lessons are occasional supplemented with instructional materials from Mel Bay and Hal Leonard. For student under the age of 12, I use a somewhat modified form of my curriculum, also supplemented with variety of instructional books primarily from Mel Bay and Hal Leonard.
LESSON STYLE
As a teacher, I always tell my students if they don't understand something, I'm not doing my job! This is why I always have multiple techniques and examples to teach a single concept. So if one method does not make sense to the student, we try another avenue to help avoid him/her getting frustrated. Also, I try to always make the student's weekly goals reasonable. Too much work often times will simply overwhelm the student, so I design a curriculum specifically for each student. And a very important idea to remember is there's no such thing as too little progress. Progress IS progress!

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
