I am a senior at Northwestern pursuing my Bachelor of Music in Viola Performance and I’ll be headed to Boston in the fall to start my Masters of Music at the New England Conservatory. My love for music has taken me all over the world with performances across the country as well as in several European cities. Music is an extremely powerful tool and also a wonderful gift to nurture and explore, which is why I love teaching and sharing this opportunity with others. I have participated in numerous summer festivals with both orchestral and chamber music programs, and have studied with some of the most esteemed violists in the country.
I started teaching a few students in high school as an assistant for my private teacher at the time in NYC. I helped one prepare for a big audition as well as gain skills and tips to improve his practice sessions. In college I had a very young student under a suzuki program. She had weekly lessons with me as well as a certified Suzuki teacher. I reviewed all of her lesson material with her and guided her through the Suzuki repertoire. Her lessons ultimately culminated in a solo performance at her recital.
My methods of teaching depend on what the students wants to gain out of the experience. I start all my students with fundamental training which includes scales and etudes so that they develop a very strong grasp of the instrument. A good technical background is essential for a good player in the long run, and playing difficult repertoire can only be built off this firm foundation. Repertoire can be chosen by the student and we will work slowly but efficiently so that he/she has the best experience they can have.
I am a very goal oriented person and I believe in setting small, realistic goals is a great approach for starting new projects. It’s very important to me that the student is fully engaged and ready to learn in these lessons. I will not force them to do anything, but instead offer my wisdom to help guide them in their musical journey. Every student is different and has different backgrounds, so my instruction style would be catered to their needs so that they are the most comfortable. I think every student has an unlimited amount of potential and I am so excited to watch them unlock their potential.
