Overview:
I have been into music since a very early age. In 2006, I was inducted into Middle School of the Arts and completed a 12 week program to learn as much as I possibly could about vocal music. I have studied all styles, ranging from Broadway to mainstream pop music. I have performed throught Central Jersey and teach students ages 3-80. I am currently working toward a Bachelor's Degree in Music Eduaction at Kean University and have been teaching my own clientelle of students for 4 years now. I write my own music and record song in studios throughout NJ. In my free time, I like to be in plays and musicals.
EXPERIENCE
I began working for a music store in 2011 and became very familiar with a plethora of instruments and how to play, repair, and care for them. I began teaching my own students and going to their houses to teach piano, guitar, and voice. I began my study in music at a young age when I got inducted into Middle School of the Arts for Voice. Throughout my high school career, I toured and played with the Edison High School A Capella Choir and got into Regions II Women's Choir in 2010. When I graduated in 2011, I went straight into Music Education and completed an associates degree at Middlesex County College. I then transferred to Kean University in 2013 where I am in the process of completing a Bachelor's degree in Music Education. I am apart of the Concert Choir, Chorale, and Woman's Choir at Kean University and travel with them to perform around the country. After I graduate in 2017, I am planning to teach in a school and get my masters so that I can teach in a university.
METHODS USED
I begin teaching my beginner students to locate notes on the piano/guitar and have them practice basic exercises to establish muscle memory. If there are any songs in particular that my student wants to learn, then I find the sheet music and begin working on them. I use a separate homework notebook that can have assignments and practice strategies for my stuedents to study during the week. When I teach adults, I like to get to know what their style is and what they are mostly interested in learning. I teach them proper technique and focus on what they want to learn. I keep each lesson fun and interesting and offer stickers to my younger students.
LESSON STYLE
I love to document and keep a record of what each student is learning! I make sure to offer rewards to my students and host recitals once a year for them to get the chance to play for others and meet other students who also play. By playing for others, I find that it foster's my student's confidence levels and gets them excited to keep learning! I use different books for each child based on their learning and skill level. Each lesson is tailored fit to the student's abilities and level of learning.
