Overview:

I'm a multi-instrumentalist with a passion for all types of music. I've featured in numerous local musical theatre productions, as well as accompanied others with piano and guitar and directed the music of various shows. Singing and performing my own compositions in London, England has been the highlight of my career so far, and I'm eager to bring that experience to students of all ages and instruments. I am also an avid fan and performer of bluegrass and Appalachian music and am dedicated to keeping the traditions of that type of music alive.

EXPERIENCE

My teaching experience dates back to high school, when I helped others prepare for their vocal performances in our school competitions. Upon beginning my college career as a musical theatre major, I began to have many fellow students come to me for audition help and vocal training. I realized the value that one-on-one musical instruction can have not only for others, but for me as well. Even for those who have taken music lessons in a classroom setting, private lessons allow them to receive specialized guidance they may not be able to receive otherwise.

My teaching style is very much tailored to the student; I have taught those of all ages and backgrounds. Though every style of music is different, a common thread runs through them all. My goal is to help my students build a firm foundation to make them into a creating, thinking musician rather than someone who is just able to play a few songs they've been taught.

METHODS USED

For beginning students, I typically start with a foundation of basic music theory and chord structure. Once the student is comfortable and this knowledge has become second nature, we progress to honing their own particular tastes in their first recital performance. Whatever the case, I always try to teach based on what the student is interested in even during the basics, to keep the lessons exciting and fun. This also gives the students a goal to look forward to and something to emulate without just copying someone else.

LESSON STYLE

The greatest moment for me is seeing that "click" happen when one of my students suddenly gets a concept that had been completely foreign to them before. That being said, every student has a different learning style, so it is important to me to get to know them as well so that we can set realistic goals and expectations per week and per month. A system of rewarding accomplishments and letting students see how far they have come always works well, in my experience. I also love to get on the same level as my students and jam with them based on a concept. For instance, if we're learning a short riff, I might play rhythm and let them jump in and try to feel out the rhythm for themselves rather than just counting it out for them.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
