I have been doing this job as a music teacher and musician from Cuba, my native country. I have vast experience since I graduated from the Guanabacoa Conservatory of Music, Ciudad Hababna, and then here I graduated from CALSTATELA in music and arts. I carry out my two professions with determination and passion and a lot of respect for students. My name is Reinaldo P., I was born in Cuba, where I graduated from the Guanabacoa Conservatory of Music "Geraldo Guanche" in Havana City, at the end of my graduation, I began teaching music teacher classes in elementary schools and at the same time playing in popular orchestras throughout the territory of Cuba. In 1994 I went to Sao Paulo, Brazil on a cultural exchange between Cuba and Brazil where I played with the Brazilian Afro reggae band called Juale. Afterwards I returned to Cuba where I worked for a consecutive year on Cuban Television, making several television programs such as "Palmas y Canas " and "Breaking the Routine" until 1996. In 1997 I arrived in the United States, where I continued working as a music teacher and musician doing national and international tours. This year in May I graduated with a Bachelor of Art & Music from CALSTATELA. I currently teach private classes at Richman Music School in Tarzana and at Creative Brain Learning where I have part-time and work with children K-4 and K-5. teaching Cuban percussion. I have experience in my work, and I consider myself qualified to exercise this profession with seriousness and respect so that students know more about music. I'm also still in the music business.
As I said before, I am a graduate of CALSTATELA and I have been giving my musical knowledge to all types of students, whether of all ages. I like that my students know about musical and rhythmic concepts, that is very important. I hope you can have some classes with me so that you have a nice and new experience. I have participated in several national and international concerts and tours. I have also recorded CDs and music videos with different artists. In Cuba, my native country, I participated in Cuban Television, in radio soap operas and films, recording and directing a septet of traditional Cuban music called FM- YYA. Here in the United States, I participated in the most famous Latin music festival in this country called Mongomery Latin Festival in Washington DC. I am still playing music currently in L.A and I have 2 tours coming up, one to Washington State and the other to Utah.
I have my own working method, but I also use the Kodaly method, which are very effective methods and widely used in this profession. Kodaly method is based on voice education, People learn by singing to get a good ear and be able to apply this knowledge in the future training. For Kodaly, popular song is the mother tongue of music that is learned in the same way as one learns to speak. Singing is the main activity in the classroom, where songs familiar to the people are used,so that they learn to express sounds through gestures and intonation exercises.
My style is simple, it consists of the student focusing on the theory and rhythms before starting to learn to play an instrument, this is very essential to obtain a good success. I'm using Suzuki method, it is based with principle of rhythmic and auditory education that uses the instrument to approach music. It is a musical education focused on all people to motivate them to study music. This principles on which this method is based are based on a personalized and active education that requires daily practice.
