I'm a passionate and motivated instructor who loves working with students and sharing my love of music. I have maintained private violin and viola teaching studios in Illinpis, Iowa, Missouri, South Carolina and South Korea. I am passionate about sharing music in the community and have helped curate musical storytimes at several local libraries in my community. I hold two music degrees (University of Iowa and Western Illinois University). I have been teaching privately since 2008. Thank you for your consideration!
My teaching experience dates back to my highschool days and have been consistently teaching students in my home studio for the last 10 years. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. I've also found that a combination of classical and modern music can go a long way in helping students enjoy the violin/viola and motivate them to practice and continue to learn. My students are encouraged to enter competitions and recitals.
For beginning students who are children ages 7 and up without parent support during home practice, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. I am also a Suzuki Method registered teacher and am open to interviewing students and their families to see if this method is a fit for your schedule and desired level of commitment.
Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a genuine passion for music! That’s why it’s so important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic and achievable goals for my students at every lesson. Celebrating accomplishments helps fuel a student’s desire to progress, and makes them eager to learn even more. By discovering what truly inspires each student, I’m able to successfully tailor my instruction to meet their unique wants and needs.
