I was born in China and started to learn the piano from 5 years old. I performed on the stage when she was 8 and was admitted by the Music Middle School of Tianjin Conservatory at the age of 12. During the time in this professional school, I was majoring in piano performance and classical composition under Professor Han Fang and Wang Yi Bo; I played in a variety of concerts (include solo, concerto, duo piano, and piano accompaniment) and competitions, and got different awards in those competitions. In 2015, I was educated by professor Pan Chun in the Central Conservatory in China and graduated from the Music Middle School in 2016. I was admitted by Columbia College Chicago in 2016, major in music composition. I learned composition under professor Ilya Levinsion; and piano under professor Sebastian Huydts and Bette Culson. In the time in Columbia College Chicago, I have played many concerts and recitals. I was also a part of the new music ensemble orchestra. In 2018-2019, I played the new music ensemble concerts twice as the arranger and pianist. I also attended the scholarship initiative event concert as the pianist in 2018. I get my Bachelor’s degree at Columbia College Chicago in 2019.
I have more than three years of experience in teaching private lessons. I was the Intern Piano Instructor at Xin Lin Art Association during 2016-2019. I provided bilingual music education which is Chinese and English to children ages 5-13. After that, I signed with the iPlay Music School and started to be a professional piano instructor. I have taught students in a variety of levels and conditions, with my classical ways to train their music feelings and technique skills. Meanwhile, I am also a film composer and a music director in the theatre.
My education methods are typically combined with the student's own situation and my plan. For the children beginners, I start with John Thompson's Easiest Piano Lessons. Once they are familiar with the keyboard and be able to read the music sheet smoothly, I will give them some Czerny etudes/Hanon, with Bastien's advanced level. The choice of books is depended on the students' interests. Later, Czerny and Bach will be my requirements for classical students who want to reach an advanced level, I will lead them to play sonatas and romantic compositions as well.
As the French sculptor, Auguste Rodin said, “Beauty is everywhere, it is not that she is lacking in our eyes, but our eyes which failed to perceive her.” Over time, I realized the importance of enjoying and understanding the beauty of music. The meaning of music education, after all, is teaching students how to make friends with music. Students don't need to be musicians in their future--of course, they can be, if they want to. However, I think the most important thing is to enjoy the music. I believe the more my students learn, the more they can enjoy in the future.
