ABOUT
Degrees / Training / Special Info:
Bachelor Degree: Brigham Young University, Associate Degree: Brigham Young University
Overview:

I grew up in Colorado but have lived in California for the last 25 years. I have four daughters. I love teaching piano and seeing the progress my students make as they learn to play and to love the instrument as much as I do. I learned to play the piano at around age 11 and have been playing ever since. I play mostly for fun but I also play the piano and the organ for my church congregation, have accompanied many musical numbers including solos, choirs of all ages, high school performance groups. I have played at weddings and to entertain at retirement homes. I have experience teaching children of various ages and adults.

EXPERIENCE

I learned to play the piano at around age 11 and have been playing ever since. I play mostly for fun but I also play the piano and the organ for my church congregation, have accompanied many musical numbers including solos, choirs, high school performance groups and have played to entertain at weddings and in retirement homes. I have experience teaching children of various ages (from 4 to adult). I teach from either Faber Piano Adventure books or the Alfred's Basic Piano Library. I enjoy seeing growth and progression in a student's achievements and I especially enjoy seeing a student learn to love piano.

METHODS USED

I teach from either Faber Piano Adventure books or the Alfred's Basic Piano Library. As students progress, we branch out to pieces that interest them as well as continue to challenge their ability to play to the level they desire. I can adapt duration of lesson times for each student, depending on their age and attention level. Piano technique, theory and performance music is given to enhance their learning. Students are encouraged to branch out and discover music genres that they are drawn to.

LESSON STYLE

Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. I require practice be done in between lessons so that we are not practicing during lesson time, which slows progress. Piano technique, theory and performance music is given to enhance their learning. Students are encouraged to branch out and discover music genres that they are drawn to.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
