Overview:
I am a trained opera singer who has been singing for 20+ years. I moved to LA in 2005 on a vocal scholarship and have experience singing in the styles of classical, rock, punk, & metal. Upon getting my opera degree, I also received a degree from Musicians Institute where I sang more modern styles such as rock, metal, blues, & pop. I taught music and was a band coach for Rock Nation Music School & now sing in 2 different cover bands as well as do gigs for hire. I love sharing my passion for singing with everyone I meet & hope to share that with you as well!
EXPERIENCE
I started teaching back in high school while I was signing in the school choir. A lot of students would come to me wanting lessons and that's when I realized I loved teaching! I then started teaching in my home once I moved to LA in addition to giving piano and vocal lessons at Rock Nation Music School. I love teaching both classical and rock styles because knowing great technique gives you the best foundations to sing all modern and rock music. I love bands and musicians who combine both styles and want to try and expose other singers to this technique!
METHODS USED
Depending on the students level, I will focus on a certain range of scales to build strength. The first few lessons are spent learning about one another and giving/getting feedback on what the student liked or didn't like. I also try to establish a vocal goal each month. We will then gradually increase that range while working on songs for your show, gig, recital, or just for fun! I recommend working on songs that showcase your voice, and I of course will help choose songs I feel would highlight my students ability.
LESSON STYLE
I love seeing my students improve. It takes dedication and practice, with my exercises we will get you to the level you want! I will usually do warmups and specific exercises first, then we will pick a song you want to learn and work on. I am flexible as well and can teach to your needs and wants. My style is fun, open and honest, and realistic. To many times I have seen instructors give their students false hope and then the student gets discouraged. I am all about creating a positive environment!
