I am a passionate person when it comes to music. From the first time I took lessons on the piano, I learned that i had a gift for playing the piano. I am the type of person that will say that music is essential to the soul. I like to teach piano to students and love to experience their first lessons and watch how they progress. If I'm not doing anything with music, you'll more than likely find me at the lake fishing. Even if I don't catch anything for the day, it's always calming just being on the water and being able to relax.
I began playing the piano as a small child. I've studied privately for 12 years with multiple professional instructors. I've started out learning traditional piano, then after my teacher started to retire, I have self taught myself. When I first started lessons, I used to get in trouble with my first teacher because I wouldn't learn my notes in the beginning. My teacher would play the instruction first, then I would remember and mimic the way she played. I learned how to pick up by ear very quickly. After a while, my teacher found a different way of teaching me and would focus on learning the notes first before I starting playing the lesson. After a while, I started reading music a lot better. I began teaching in 2015 offer a variety of styles, from R&B, gospel, jazz, and light classical.
For students that are beginners, I start with Bastien Piano Basics at the premier level. I like using these books so I can teach the basic fundamentals from learning the keys, to time signatures, to notes, and etc. I love keeping students interested so that way once they grab the basic fundamentals, they can learn any song that they like. This helps keep them engaged since they keep in mind that they have a goal to learn whatever song they want in the end and seeing how their skill level will progress.
I love rewarding students of teaching them songs that they like of their choice. I do not force anything on the kids and keep it to where they lose interest since they constantly practice all the time, or get frustrated if they hit a road block as they progress. I always encourage students to work at their own pace and set goals and rewards at the end. Each student will learn and adapt differently than others. Some students may progress faster or slower than others. I adjust to every students needs and wants and inspire them.
