Overview:
I'm a passionate and motivated instructor who loves working with students and sharing my love of music. In 2015 I graduated from Marshall University with a degree in Violin Performance. Before then I had the privilege of appearing on Daystar Television with the Ramsey Family Trio, I also appeared as a guest artist at Tamarack, and performed a concerto with the New River Symphony. Just before college I also gained some in studio recording experience from working with a band called Tender Mercies. One of my favorite memories is when I performed a fiddle solo in Nashville Tennessee. I absolutely love what I do for a living! I hope to spread that same love to my students and show them what a great influence music can be in their life just as it has been in mine.
EXPERIENCE
My teaching experience is quite diverse for someone my age. I am only 24, but in the last 8 years when I started teaching at 16, I have been able to work with some amazing people in some amazing places! In 2013 I was privileged to work with Fine Arts Summer Academy out of Nashville Tennessee as a mentor for both individual instruction and group ensemble. I was also able to work as an instructor for another music camp based in WV called Coda Mountain Academy from 2010 to 2013. Aside from the music camps I have maintained a private studio the entire time I have been teaching.
METHODS USED
For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements or the Suzuki method. Once the student begins to grasp the fundamentals I slowly begin introducing solo repertoire. One of my main focuses for a beginning student is to get them playing a familiar piece very soon from when they start. For adults I use a similar method but I move a little faster. I have found in my years of teaching that it is even more crucial for and adult to play even a simple song soon after beginning.
LESSON STYLE
Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! I believe anyone can learn music, but sometimes we learn at different rates. That is totally ok with me! I will find your comfort level and tailor your lesson to you specifically. I set realistic goals for my students at each lesson. I will acknowledge your accomplishments and encourage you if you are struggling. Another one of my main goals is to always have fun! I believe that if you are studying music it should be more of a joy rather than a chore!
