I am a motivated guitar instructor who loves teaching and helping people learn music. I graduated from the Atlanta Institute of Music in June of 2017 with a certificate in guitar performance. While I was there, I studied Blues, Jazz, Classical, Rock, Progressive and Country. Teaching has been one of the more rewarding things I've done in my life as a musician. Watching people learn and grow on the instrument inspires me to keep pushing my limits. I've had the opportunity to play in a couple bands, one being the Northeast Pipe Band out of Cleveland, OH and being able to play at the Dublin Irish Festival.
As I said earlier, teaching is very rewarding to me and I love to watch my students learn and grow on their instrument(s). I've been teaching guitar lessons for a year on my own in my home studio. The students I have taught have ranged from the ages of 7-50 so any age will work well for me. Teaching people who have a passion for their instrument already is great but helping younger people develop that passion is very rewarding. I like my lessons to be fun and not just a drill. I love to write music so creating original music will be highly encouraged by me!
For beginning students, I do like to start out with a beginning guitar book as well as some finger exercises that I have developed. After we get to a certain point I like to introduce my teaching method along with solo pieces for the student to work on. For adults I really try to find out what styles of music they want to learn and go from there. I keep those lessons fun yet challenging to a point to keep the progress going. I love teaching styles that may not be my forte as it will help both of us grow, which again is the most rewarding part of playing music to me!
I love watching people grow on their instrument and the feeling you both get once my student breaks a barrier by playing something they thought they wouldn't be able to play! I like to set realistic goals each week to help the student progress each week to end up at the goals we have talked about achieving. I will push a student to work on an assignment but not to the point of the lesson not being fun. Music is about developing a passion and having fun and that is extremely important for me to keep in my lessons!
