Bachelors of Science, The College of Saint Rose, Music Industry
Overview:
I am very passionate about music, and every aspect of the guitar. I have been playing the guitar for fourteen years, and in 2011 I graduated from The College of Saint Rose with a Bachelors of Science in Music Industry. During my time at Saint Rose I was fortunate enough to study under the late, highly renowned Jack Fragomeni. I have played in pop/ rock bands, jazz combos, blues bands, performed classical repertoire, written songs, as well as recorded albums and engineered recording sessions. I did my college internship at Parkway Music, where I learned everything about guitar mechanics, and routine care and maintenance for the instrument.
EXPERIENCE
I began teaching while I was still in college. I started teaching family members and friends how to read music notation, and how to apply it to the guitar. From there, I was referred to other students and I started developing my teaching methods. My goal is to inspire all of my students to develop a passion for music, through hard work, dedication, consistent practice and lesson schedules, and most of all to have fun. I encourage every one of my students to perform for their friends and family, in bands, open mic nights, and recitals. My students see that I am passionate towards music, and through encouragement and motivation I deliver and enstill the same values in them. I welcome any new student regardless of age or skill level!
METHODS USED
For beginners, I generally start with exercises I have composed myself. Every student learns at their own pace, which is why I write each lesson specifically for that individual. Once the student has gotten a grasp on fundamentals, I will introduce Mel Bay, Berklee Press, and Hal Leonard style solo repertoire, chord progression and melody exercises, and music theory. To keep the student engaged and interested, I will designate the last twenty minutes of each lesson to incorporate a song or style of music the student wants to learn. I put a large emphasis on questions as well. If a student has a question or doesn't understand part of the lesson I am always reachable by phone or email.
LESSON STYLE
As a teacher, there is no better reward than watching a student succeed and further their passion for the guitar. I will work with each student at their own pace, setting goals I know they can accomplish each lesson. The guitar is fun, and I teach in a way that each student will enjoy learning this craft, as well as develop skills in music theory, song writing, and expanding their repertoire. By using the last portion of the lesson to teach what they want, I learn what inspires them and I can use my instruction to cater to their wants and needs.
