Throughout my career as a drummer I have enjoyed seeing every state in the country, as well as other counties around the world. I have met and learned from many talented musicians and other drummers. It is that drive to continue learning that enjoy, and passing on my knowledge to others so that they can experiences all of the wonderful aspects of making music as I have. There is no other profession that I can imagine enjoying as much as making music, of all styles, and in all the places and for all of those enjoy listening.
I have taught drumming to many levels of students over the years. With each student my main focus is on their musical interests, and helping them achieve their goals as a musician, through positive reinforcement, and giving them the tools they need to be successful. As serious a profession as music can be, I also find it to be challenging and fun. It is rewarding for me to see students improving throughout their lessons and having as much enjoyment playing the drums as I do. I have taught many students throughout the years form as young as 5 up to 70. I have over 30 years professional experience as a drummer in many styles of music, including Jazz, Pop, Rock, and shows. I have toured the country multiple times with shows such as Chicago and Cats, and have worked with artists such as Michael Bolton and Petula Clark. I am currently working in the NYC area as a drummer. I have recorded drums for various artists and entertainers as well as performed on soundtracks for film and television.
With all levels of students I have an emphasis on reading music as well as the importance of listening to all types of music. I teach how both reading and developing a students ear though ear training are essential parts if being a successful drummer. There are also many discussions in my lessons about how various genre are related and how they can all be traced to the music of today. I want my students to have positive reinforcement in their studies. It is important to me that they understand that though some elements can be tough to learn, through persistence and dedication, anything is possible.
As a long time student my self, I understand how every student is different. Everyone understands and learns at their own pace. Lessens are actually something that never ends. We are all learning something new about our craft everyday. I never want my students to feel bogged down in leaning. I want them to feel the happiness of learning something new, and not make them feel as though they “have” to practice, but make them “want” to practice. There are no specific levels to my teaching. I assess what the student needs and provide them with the necessary information to reach their goals. When a concept is understood and the student shows they have learned the skill, then we move on to a new one.
