Overview:
I am a passionate performer who pushes students to not only do their best, but also to learn the history and theory behind their pieces and have fun while doing so. As a cellist, I have performed with the Bellevue Youth Symphony, Sammamish Symphony, Waynesboro Symphony, and Washington State University chamber groups. I have also been a concert soloist and a concerto competition finalist on multiple occasions for recital and solo works. I have also had 18 years of piano experience and studied under Dr. Lise Keiter at Mary Baldwin University while studying instrumental performance. I have been teaching both private students and full orchestras since 2011. I create a community of hard-working, talented individuals who excel at what they do and love it in the process.
EXPERIENCE
My teaching dates back to my high school years. I started as the only freshmen in the high school string orchestra and even made it as the assistant principal. As a sophomore, I was the youngest principal the orchestra had seen. At that point, I was teaching not only the younger, elementary school students but also the middle school and even other high school students privately. Starting into my junior year, I became a conductor for the elementary and middle school orchestras thus expanding my private studio as well. Since then I have been teaching at the American Preparatory Academies in Salt Lake County to continue this spread of music. I find theory and technique essential for proper musicianship and outstanding performance. I always encourage my students to perform whenever possible and to strive for greatness--it is my job to help them achieve it!
METHODS USED
My teaching philosophy is that anyone can learn. Any dreams or goals a student may have, it is my job to make them happen! For beginners, I teach using the Suzuki method. I find that they can be very helpful and that many kids enjoy the songs within them. For intermediate and advanced students, I use a combination of the Suzuki books, chamber music, and outside works. I find learning how to work with other musicians and how two parts might fit together is as essential as learning theory and technique itself. I try to tailor lesson plans and music to work on depending on the student's abilities, interests, and goals and make sure that those goals are achieved!
LESSON STYLE
Nothing is more rewarding than seeing a student develop a passion for music! Therefore, it is my job to have each student progress at their own pace. I hold recitals twice a year as a checkpoint to see how students have progressed and to have them practice performance. These recitals help motivate the students to practice and give acknowledgement to all their hard work and accomplishments. This acknowledgment is what drives them to work even harder and progress even further therefore leading closer to their dreams as a musician.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
