ABOUT
Degrees / Training / Special Info:

Master of Music in Studio Composition from SUNY Purchase (2012)

Bachelor of Arts in Music from Swarthmore College (2009)

Overview:

Woody is a guitarist and singer-songwriter from Potsdam, New York. He is a teaching artist at the Swedesboro Performing Arts Academy in Swedesboro, New Jersey, and teaches in Westchester County New York, Bucks County Pennsylvania, and New Jersey as an instructor for Westchester Home Music, Musika, and Scarsdale Strings. He holds a Master of Music degree in Studio Composition from the Conservatory of Music At Purchase College and a Bachelor of Arts in Music and English Literature from Swarthmore College. His song "California" was featured on Wide Open Country in 2018, and his original music can be heard at woodyjiang.com and all streaming platforms.

EXPERIENCE

I began teaching guitar while earning my master’s degree at SUNY Purchase in 2010. I have always enjoyed teaching and found it rewarding to share my love of music. Since then I have added piano, voice and songwriting to the disciplines I teach. The best part of my job is helping my students make musical connections and giving them the tools for lifelong learning. In 2017 I co-founded SSW (SPAA Songwriters), an intensive summer songwriting workshop where kids can write, record and produce their own original tracks.

METHODS USED

Everyone is different! Some students will benefit most from a traditional, by the book approach, whereas others will lean more towards the improvisational. There is no singular right way to learn, my job is to find the right way for you. If you like to read sheet music that's great, but if not that doesn't mean that you can't study music. The method is less important than the end goal of enriching your life through music. There are many paths that can take you there, as long as you keep practicing!

LESSON STYLE

Learning an instrument can be a daunting task; I take pride in providing a comfortable and relaxed learning environment in which all students can excel. Our lessons are guided by the interest of the student. If there is a particular song or artist the student likes we will use it as a starting place and build from there. Regular practice is the most important ingredient. I can help show you not only What to practice, but How to practice in order to make progress and get the most enjoyment out of making music.

My 10 year old son is very happy with Mr Lynwood J. He loves him and waits for his next class. We don’t even need to tell him to practice his instrument. Any free time and I can hear him strumming his guitar. Mr Lynwood J. is very professional, always on time, very patient and encouraging. We are very lucky to have found him.

Our kids love Mr. Lynwood. Mr. Lynwood is very patient and skillful teaching our kids both music theory and guitar/piano. He keeps them engaged and motivated during their lessons and we are seeing -or rather hearing- fast improvement in the kids' dexterity playing their respective instruments. We would recommend this good natured instructor to anybody.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
