Bachelor Degree: Georgia Southern University
Hello my name is Lance and I love teaching music. Whether it's how to play guitar, theory, or simple rhythm exercises, I find teaching music to be so much fun and rewarding. Not only does the student learn but so does the teacher. In my experience of teaching guitar lessons I have been figuring out many ways to help students and I keep learning more everyday. I am very patient and not judgmental of any students playing. I graduated in 2019 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music from Georgia Southern University. There I studied theory, performance practice, classical guitar, and other ways to better myself as a musician. The sound and feeling of playing and listening to music is unmatched by any other in this world. It's amazing how a simple chord progression or sequence of notes can make someone feel an emotion and I find that astonishing.
My experience is short lived being that I've only done some private and commercial guitar lessons for about a year. However I have been playing for 12 years and learning experience is ever growing. I know everything a beginner to advanced player would need to know. I have found that teaching lessons is one of my passions not because it is a job in music, but it's the reward and feeling making progress in a students playing. Before college I was in a church band for a few years, than moved off to college. During my time in college I had performed in many recitals, and chorale concerts.
Every student is different so when I meet them I assess to see what they know and can play. For beginners I generally start with basic chords and see how well they do those while also going over proper playing technique such as strumming, picking, holding the guitar etc. I always ensure the student isn't confused or has any questions about the lesson before the end. Music should be fun though at times in the beginning of learning it can be frustrating. I want students to progress but have fun doing it so I make sure to ask them of their goals and try and incorporate songs they want to learn.
I am very easy going with teaching. I am not strict, demanding or impatient, so lessons with me is a breeze. I go over everything in detail and problem solve with the student. I encourage practice at least 3 times a week and always leave the student with something new each lessons so they're always learning. It's important to practice with repetition and patience, so take exercises and chords that may seem hard slow at first. It will be worth it in the long run. Goals are important too so I make sure to find out what students want to play and learn versus forcing something that they're not interested in.
