Overview:

I am a person who loves to teach and play the flute. I am currently pursuing my Master’s of Music Degree in Flute Performance at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts and I received my Bachelor Degree in Flute Performance at Eastern Michigan University. In my undergrad, I got to have many performing opportunities like winning both concerto competitions and I got to perform in many ensembles. I have also played with the U.S.A.F Collegiate Band Symposium and the National Flute Association Collegiate Flute Choir.

EXPERIENCE

I started teaching when I was 17 years old just starting my senior year of high school with the encouragement from my mother, who is also a professional flutist who teaches private lessons. I remember being very nervous and unsure about how my practice methods and the way I explained certain ideas would come across to my students but, as soon as I started, I immediately felt like I was doing what I was meant to do; to teach young musicians. To see how excited this first student of mine got every time she was able to accomplish something for the first time was the most rewarding feeling. Ever since then, I have held a studio of at least 4 or more students every year. My students have consistently been placed in their top band and orchestra ensembles and help high chair positions. They have also received 1st and 2nd division ratings at Solo and Ensemble through the Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association. Some students have even gone to study music in college. Starting through the pandemic, I have learned how to get more proficient while teaching online and have enjoyed getting creative in ways to explain new technical and musical ideas with students through a screen. I have taught from beginner students all the way to advanced college students and I enjoy teaching every level!

METHODS USED

Each student comes to lessons with different goals in mind. During the first few lessons, we will define those and determine the path to achieve them. In addition, I would like each student to achieve the following: 1) Love playing flute and listening to all periods of classical music 2) Learn how to practice efficiently to accomplish the most is the shortest amount of time. It is a great feeling of accomplishment when you are able to play something that looked impossible in the beginning. 3) Enjoy your music. I will always try to give you solos that you will enjoy working on. If you absolutely hate the piece, tell me and we will find something else that will accomplish the same goals. As well as giving more traditional solo pieces, I will occasionally give out more fun solos to switch things up every so often! 4) We will explore music from different time periods and countries to expand your knowledge of history. No matter your level, we will always focus on the basics; scales, etudes, technique exercises, etc. I believe that if a musician is not solid with basic techniques, then it will be harder to accomplish more difficult music.

LESSON STYLE

In my studio, it is very important to me that I give each of my students the necessary tools to succeed as a flutist no matter what level they are at. Below are the elements that you will experience if you join my studio: - Collaboration with the student on musical ideas so they can learn how to develop their own musical ideas. - Enriched musical education about flute as well as some music theory and music history. - An encouraging atmosphere so the student can feel comfortable to express themselves. - A teacher who will adapt to the students learning style. - A practice plan

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
