I began to play the trumpet at the age of 9 years old and have not put it down since. Now as am I 20, the love for music and the trumpet has only grown stronger. In high school, I was selected for the SCBDA South Carolina All State Band four years in a row and was one of the top trumpet players in my region for multiple years. During my senior year, I was awarded the opportunity to perform at the SCBDA Master Recital, held at the University of South Carolina, and is currently the highest accolade a musician can receive in the state of South Carolina. I was accepted into the University of North Texas College of Music and The Belmont School of Music to study Music Performance on the trumpet. I have studied with Dr. Joel Treybig for over a year at Belmont University. I love getting to work with him and live in the great city of Nashville. I have been able to perform all over the country and on National television, including “Christmas at Belmont” on PBS with Grammy award winners Michael W. Smith and CeCe Winans. I have also competed in various trumpet competitions, including the National Trumpet Competition. I currently hold a spot with the Nashville Philharmonic Orchestra and am planning to premiere a trumpet concerto with them later this year.
I have been teaching private lessons for over 5 years now and currently teach all levels while I’m in college. As I study trumpet performance, I am also studying trumpet pedagogy. I am learning how to teach students and conduct private lessons in preparation to become a trumpet professor. I am very well versed in teaching all levels of trumpet and look forward to working with and teaching your young student! I currently am working on an online only schedule due to the coronavirus, but hopefully will be able to do lessons in person later this year!
For students who are beginners, I usually start with essential elements. This is the same book that I used when I was a kid to learn trumpet, and is still a very reliable book! Depending on what level the student is at, I will move on to the arbans book, which I still practice out of to this day, and is considered the “trumpet bible” and is the most helpful book in all trumpet playing. Depending on what your student wants to learn, we may move into concerto work or even more etudes or studies out of my more advanced books.
I have a deep rooted passion for teaching and wanting to help others. My teaching style is relaxed, but I do demand the best from my students. Practicing the material is very important! I love to see my students progress little by little each and every week. I guide the student to playing the instrument and pieces better, and dig into the artistic side of playing depending on what level the student is at. This teaching method has been taught to me by many, but is used by some of the most famous players in the world.
