Overview:
Julie has been a highly valued music teaching professional for 17 years privately, and in schools. She also writes and performs her own music. She is gifted with understanding individual learning styles and abilities, and is very intuitive and precise with diagnosing and correcting voice production issues. Encouraging and inspiring, she has been commited to helping students realize their full potential, and has helped them to select and audition for college programs, plus various theatre and chorus groups. My performance styles are folk, country, rock, and blues. I lived and played in the Boston/Cambridge area for 12 years, before moving north. I have written numerous songs, and have a CD of 14 original tunes.
EXPERIENCE
Julie has developed and organized the private music education of up to 55 students per week, as well as producing numerous concerts and recitals each year. She has directed performing arts school and church choirs, and has been a songwriter and performer on the East Coast for many years. She has produced CD's for her students, and self-released a CD of original songs.  She has worked with students with special needs and attention issues, and with voice students with speech and hearing impairments.
METHODS USED
For vocal instruction, I draw from a variety of vocal training methods, depending on the needs of the student, and a variety of styles, depending on the student's interests. For piano and guitar instruction, I have a well-rounded approach, including theory, ear-training, and exposure to various styles of music. I teach music notation as well as learning songs by ear.  I include the structure of music to increase students' understanding. I also offer direction and instruction for songwriting and composition, to encourage students who wish to create their own music, on any level.
LESSON STYLE
By being creative and willing to explore, I help students stay interested and motivated, and have fun discovering and developing their talents. I assess the learning style, interests, and abilities of each student, and select methods and materials accordingly. I give theory instruction in the lesson, as appropriate, and music from method books and other sources. I provide time for exploring any original ideas, and any variety of genres the student is interested in, or that I think might be beneficial. For vocal lessons, I begin the class with vocal exercises, to build strength, good technique, and expertise, then concentrate on applying that to the selected material.
