I love music and I love teaching others to play music. Learning about music and teaching others about what I've learned has been a passion of mine for more than half of my life. I've been a musician since I was 11 years old. First playing in the orchestra, marching band and jazz band from 5th to 12th grade. After graduating high school I preformed in multiple bands all across the tri-state area. Playing music with others has been one of the most fulfilling aspects of my life, and spreading the joy of making music is just icing on the cake!
I've been teaching students since graduating high school, and consistently teaching for the past 5 years. Throughout the years I've found that teaching students music they're interested in is the key to keeping my students eager to learn. I pair music they want to learn and various practice exercises that can help my students play and understand the music better. It can be daunting learning an instrument and getting bogged down with all of the technical information, so I make sure to show my students that it there are real life applications to all of the fundamentals of music.
I create lesson plans based on my students interests because if my students are interested in what they learn, then they'll have a better time understanding the lessons. Each lesson we'll cover and song they want to learn and the music theory and playing technique behind the song. Depending on the students experience, I will curate songs according to their ability level. I make sure that the lessons I teach are challenging for my students to learn new songs and information, but the concepts and technique are easy enough to be eager to learn more.
Nothing is more rewarding to me than seeing my students gain a love for music and playing their instrument! I know that everybody learns differently so I try to find out what inspires my students and how they learn to best teach them. We work at their own pace and set realistic goals to ensure that learning is always engaging and fun! I want to make sure that learning an instrument is an enjoyable experience, so I make sure to give positive affirmations to my students when they achieve their goals.
