BA, Columbia College, Piano concentration
2018-Irene Maddox Award Recipient
2014- Columbia College Music & Merit Scholarship
I am a motivated pianist interested in working with students who wish to explore the world of the keys. I graduated from Columbia College in 2018 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music. At the time of my graduation, I was the only student who represented the Piano concentration. My tutelage for the duration of my studies fell under Dr. Alan Weinberg, and Ms. Aletha Jacobs. I have had the opportunity to perform with the Jazz ensemble, in church conferences, and as apart of a Fine arts collaboration called "Freelance".
I am apart of a duo consisting of two classically trained pianists. I have completed my Bachelor's in music in the spring of 2018, and have accumulated over 15 years of study. As a student, I found that music is universal and has the power of connecting the worlds of many people. I wish to share my abilities to communicate in this arena, and provide lessons to others who wish to learn in the same area.
I offer lessons based in Columbia, SC, but at this time I would like to provide primarily online services. I am currently accepting younger and/or beginner students in piano who desire to learn and may not have prior experience in piano. I desire to teach others who are motivated to learn the skill. Whether you're learning classical repertoire or learning to write your own music notation, I am willing to help you in that direction.
For beginning young students, I would use any literature from the the Alfred Prep course and Piano series. I am open to working with other Method series as well if there is an alternate preference. Other methodologies I am familiar with at this time would include Bastien Piano basics, Piano Adventures, Premier Piano course, and My first Piano. For students who maybe interested in pop classics, movie themes, or television soundtracks, I would also introduce them to the Top Hits series. For adults, I would use the Basic Adult Piano course by Alfred as a starting point in literature. If you are not a beginner student, I would tailor my lessons to work in the areas that you wish to focus on.
My highest priority is meeting the needs of the students. As an experienced life-learning and student myself, I know what it feels like to habitually attend lessons and not know fully what to expect or lack the motivation to learn my music in a private lesson scenario. Likewise, I also understand that when the lesson is tailored specifically for the student, it is easier to accomplish more in that lesson than it is to systematically approach every unique individual the same way. I am willing to work with everyone and will accommodate in most cases to work at the appropriate pace and structure the lesson specifically for them. Commonly, I will ask what is the overall goal of the student? To get a general feel for how to approach and use the lesson & session.
