I am a motivated instructor who seeks to bring an understanding to the art of classical guitar. I have performed at numerous paid events and "gigs" such as weddings, anniversaries, parties, and local festivals/events. I am flexible and willing to work with you at your own pace. I am very compromising if you would like to take a different approach to your education. I try to tailor lessons according to students abilities, time schedules, and etc. Typically I like to incorporate a good amount of music theory into my lesson plans in addition to performing pieces and perfecting techniques.
After several years of tutelage under Mike Casey (son of famous Al Casey) my instructor felt that I was ready to stop taking lessons and instead take on a portion of his clientele to teach. He guided me along the way and help me outline various lesson plans for students. After working with him I moved on to teach independently. I have since taught students of various ages at their homes and at a studio space I rent from the local music store. I am adept at teaching fundamentals of various styles and can teach basically any style to at least an intermediate level, however I have primarily taught classical guitar in the past. I highly enjoy imparting knowledge of music to others as I feel it is a fundamental aspect of many peoples lives.
I will first evaluate your level of ability/aptitude with the guitar in accordance to what you would like to learn. If you are just beginning we will begin with basic aspects of playing such as how to hold to instrument properly and etc. Then I will begin to incorporate core components of playing such as sight reading, how to read music, how to get a decent sound, how to pick, and etc. For more advanced students I like to discuss and develop a lesson plan with them based on the direction they want to go with their learning.
I teach primarily out of methodology books and like to focus on performance and practical application of technique. I design my own lesson plans and recommend instructional materials based on each particular students needs. I let you go at your own pace and do not attempt to overload you with excess information all at once. I am highly flexible and able to change the focus and direction of the lessons at any time. I like to set goals because they can help you to feel and accomplished and allow you to easily gauge your progress.
