Overview:

My passion since I was 5 is violin music. I love playing, listening and teaching how to play the violin. I was the first student of Aaron Rosand at The Curtis Institute of Music, and studied the violin with Ivan Galamian at Meadowmount, and Piotr Janowski at the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music, among others. I was a finalist in 3 national violin competitions and winner of 3 Wisconsin state competitions. I have soloed with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, Oshkosh Symphony Orchestra, and Fox Valley Orchestra. I love collecting historical violin performances in audio, and video format as well as books, photos, and autographs.

EXPERIENCE

My teaching experience dates back to my high school days, as I began teaching private lessons part time. Hearing beautiful playing and imaging beautiful sounds is what I emphasize to students. When they have high goals to aim for they gain a passion to pursue great violin playing and enjoy music. Discovering ways to make the violin achieve their ambitions is my job. I love when the student smiles during his or her lesson!

METHODS USED

For beginning students, young or older, I start my lesson by playing a piece for them on my violin. They can listen and observe how I play the violin and how it sounds to them. Then I show them how to hold bow and violin and feel comfortable with the instrument. After time, I gradually introduce music reading and usually use Applebaum's String Builder and Suzuki books. I always encourage listening to great historical violinists recordings to develop a sense of personality, style and tone in the students playing.

LESSON STYLE

I love seeing the student become interested in the violin. Each student is different and I try to understand each by asking questions and answering questions that they may have. I try to make each as comfortable as possible while playing the violin. I also try to convey my fascination and love of the instrument by performing my best for them during lessons. I strive to develop each students personal style and strengths while working on their weaknesses. I give them examples of great violinists playing as food for thought.

It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
