Overview:
Music is not what I do it is who I am. I started playing the flute in 3rd grade. I picked the flute because, let's be honest, it's easy to fit in a bookbag, but also because I heard a piccolo player in a concert that high schoolers put on for the elementary children. The piccolo player had a solo and I fell in love with the piccolo. After hearing that concert, I ultimately wanted to play the piccolo, but my band director said, "you have to learn flute first!". So, it began. I found my love for music when I was in 4th grade when I found the love to practice my flute. I remember how inspired I felt after finding a sound on the flute that I thought was the most beautiful sound ever created. Since then, I have always had the drive and determination to be the best musician I could be. I did not decide that I was going to go into a music career until I was a junior in high school. I couldn't imagine my life without my flute, so I decided that this was the career I would invest my entire life in. I want to show my students the inspiration that I found when I was a young flutist. I want to motivate my students to express themselves through music. My goals as a teacher are how to find a love for music and show them how music can change their life. I want to help the students realize their full potential as a flute player and musician.
EXPERIENCE
I been teaching the flute for eight years. As a flute instructor, I aspire to motivate my students to be the best musician they can be. I mend my teaching skills to acquire the needs of my students and try different strategies to make them successful. I want to inspire my students to become the musician they want to be. My students have ranged from beginner level students to advanced. Along with having a studio, I have worked as a sectional conductor with the Louisville Youth Orchestra, working with the woodwinds, I have taught at several high schools as a flute staff member at band camps, and became a flute instructor at several high schools during concert band season. As a performing flutist, I have been principal flute of the Ohio Northern University and University of Louisville Symphony Orchestra since 2014. I have toured with the Ohio Northern University Jazz Band to New Orleans, as a soloist, the Ohio Northern University Wind Orchestra to Germany, and the University of Louisville Symphony Orchestra to Costa Rica. I have performed at the Mid-West Band and Orchestra Clinic as a performer. I won a Concerto Competition to play with the Ohio Northern University Wind Orchestra. I have experience playing in multiple pit orchestras for both opera and musical theater. I have played with a professional orchestra in a side-by-side concert with the Lima Symphony Orchestra. My experience would not be possible without working with many world-renowned professors. My primary professors were Dr. Erin Torres and Kathy Karr. I have studied with Jim Walker, Denis Bouriakov, Jeanne Baxstresser, Alberto Almarza, Marina Piccinini, Jill Felber, Valerie Colman, Brook Ferguson, Nicole Esposito, Rose Lombardo, Ben Smolen, and Diana Morgan.
METHODS USED
For beginning students, I start with Rubank Elementary Method – Flute or Piccolo. Once the student has progressed and has grasped the fundamentals, I move to the Rubank Intermediate Method Book and introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their level. For intermediate to advanced level students, I have multiple method books to work on scales, technique, rhythm, vibrato, and repertoire. For all my students, I try to pick repertoire that the student would be interested in and that will guide them to success. I can also help the student work on their orchestra or band repertoire at lessons if needed. No matter their ability level, I try to create a fun and inspiring atmosphere for all of my students.
LESSON STYLE
Nothing is more rewarding than seeing my students inspired by music! Therefore, it is important for me to find what part of music inspires the student. I want my students to be successful in anything they do in their life, whether it is in music or not. I try to create a positive atmosphere to help the student find their successes and inspiration in music. I try to be as supportive as possible in my career helping students with their musical needs in any way that I can. By trying to find out what inspires my student, I can tailor my instructions to their wants and needs.

I was a clarinet student, who had to learn the saxophone for marching band and the bassoon for concert band. When I needed help with a short time notice, Jessica was always there to make sure I was prepared. From calming my nerves, to teaching me new techniques, Jessica was exactly what I needed. When I was not able to see her person, she was even able to video chat with me almost immediately. I love working with her and would recommend her to any student!

Jessica is an absolutely amazing teacher!! I have been playing the flute since about 1st grade, but I put it down when I began college. A decade later, I wanted to pick it back up, but was absolutely terrified. Jessica is the sweetest and most encouraging person. She has been teaching me since October of last year and I have improved way beyond my expectations. Not just with my sound and technique, but also with my confidence. She makes it fun and makes you want to practice to show her how far you came. I absolutely love her!

Absolutely wonderful teacher! Jessica has been an incredible positive influence on my son as he began his flute career, and he is blossoming both as a young musician. She is very personable with her lessons and tailors them to best match her students' needs. Would highly recommend even just a trial!

I have been performing alongside Jessica for multiple years now in both a large ensemble setting (symphony orchestra) and a small ensemble setting (woodwind quintet). She is an excellent musician with an adaptable style, and always maintains a wonderful tone and sense of musicality. Along with this, Jessica is a fantastic leader, which is shown through her conducting, her playing as a principal flutist, and her involvement in our woodwind quintet. Her dedication is admirable, and as a musician who is younger than she is, I can say that I have learned a lot just by performing alongside her; she has helped me improve in many ways. She always explains her thoughts and ideas clearly, and she is constructive in giving corrections and instructions. I would recommend Jessica as a teacher to anyone who is looking to improve as a musician in both technique and musicality.

Great at maintaining control of a group, while still being nice and considerate. She obviously knows what she’s teaching very well, and has a way of explaining things so that anyone can understand. Overall great teacher
