My name is Jerry. I LOVE music and passing my knowledge on to others. I have played music for 35 years. I started on clarinet in 7th grade and soon after discovered guitar. I picked up bass in high school was awarded a full scholarship to play with the Valdosta Symphony Orchestra while majoring in music. I also played tuba for 2 years with the VSU Blazin' Brigade marching band. After college I joined the United States Marine Corps and played guitar for the 2nd Marine Division band. We toured much of the east coast and Europe. When I left the Marine Corps I put together a band that toured around the southeast. We even got invited to play the halftime show of the Hula Bowl college football game in Honolulu, Hawaii. I have played in a few other bands along the way opening for and performing with some major national artists. Each band/group/ensemble had one major thing in common. They were FUN! If you are not enjoying an instrument you won't want to learn.

My curriculum varies depending on what instrument and style the student is learning. For orchestral string instruments I use the Suzuki method books but also others. The Simandl book for bassist is an amazing resource as well. Modern Reading Text by Louis Bellson is a great book for improving not only your rhythm reading ability but also sight reading. For guitar it really depends on what the student wants to focus on. For classical guitar I usually start students with the Christopher Parkening guitar methods. As you can see, it is dependent on what instrument and style you are focusing on.
My teaching style is based on the wants and needs of the individual student. There are some concepts that are universal. There are also instruments that require more strict adherence to certain techniques. (Orchestral string instruments playing classical music is a perfect example.) Lessons can be fun AND educational at the same time. If you have never had that experience then you should sign up and find out.
