Overview:
I often find myself saying that music is the key to the universe. It is a medium in which all humans, regardless of language or culture are able to connect. It is because of this that I love sharing the knowledge that I have gained from nearly two decades of playing guitar.
I picked up the guitar at the beginning of high school after going through my father's old record collection. I very quickly fell in love with the dynamic presented by some of the most recognizable guitar icons, and decided that I wanted to be able to follow in their footsteps by playing music.
EXPERIENCE
I started studying guitar at the age of fourteen, and have always made it a point to continue learning. One of my earliest guitar instructors taught me that we never really finish learning; there will always be a new way to view your instrument, and learning, and sharing ideas with others help us better develop out craft.
I moved to Los Angeles in 2014, and between 2015 and 2017 I had the opportunity to tour nationally and internationally with the bands Nekrogoblikon and Voodoo Kungfu. This past year in 2018 I decided to make myself a little more sedentary, and have had opportunities working with several composers. Being that I able to stay local for an extended period, I wanted to reach out and begin sharing through private lessons again.
METHODS USED
My lessons range from beginner to advanced, and my curriculum revolves around: 1) Understanding the basics of theory, and showcasing how those basics are applied in songs (specifically bands and artists that you regularly listen to). 2) Proper technique, and also 3) Some fun and fancy tricks! The idea is to take what you have already developed a love for, and create an even deeper connection. My goal is to make sure each lesson is clear so that you may fully understand and enjoy the benefits therein!
LESSON STYLE
The most important thing for me is that each of my students understands their instrument in their own terms, and so each lesson plan I develop is designed around an individual. I highly encourage questions, and interaction. One of my favorite things to do is find out a student's favorite bands/artists, and use those songs as a basis for the lessons. If a person already has a love for art, I find that examining those songs helps cement an overall appreciation and dedication to their instrument.
