I'm a dedicated and passionate artist ready to share my experiences and knowledge to upcoming and aspiring young musicians. I studied at the University of Memphis for two years before I decided to advance my performance career, and I have had the great pleasure of touring the U.S., sharing the stage with many other peers such as Percy Wiggins, Sir Earl Toon and Al Paris from Kool and the Gang, the Hodges brothers, Ben Cauley, and many more. I recently settled in the Northwest Arkansas area with my wife and I'm eager to help new artists find their voice and express themselves.
I first began teaching private lessons during my time in college, as I was asked by many high school parents to teach their band kids. From then on I would teach students whenever I had time off from my touring gigs and when I was playing in the city of Memphis. My experiences with my students are always relaxed and laid-back, as I like to take the time to get to know each student and what they want out of their lessons. I always encourage students to enter competitions and contests and to get involved with taking their interests to the highest level.
For beginning students, I start with basic embouchure, breathing techniques, and fundamentals. As they progress I then move towards scales and repertoire that each student can use to build themselves. If my students are middle/high school aged, I always encourage them to audition for All-Region and to experience competition with their age groups. I help them build on the material that they are given in school and give them a different perspective on how to grow. For adults, I want to give them a relaxed experience learning music they love, while teaching basics that make learning and playing stress-free and easy.
I like to spend a few minutes getting to know my students, and I always want to set the environment of learning to be as relaxed as possible. I make sure to only teach within the students' expectations, never mine, as students need room to grow at their own pace. Once I get to know what goals the students have, I can then set timelines and implement plans to help every student meet their goals. My students have the opportunity to learn and to practice as much as they want to, but as a teacher I always check with them on their progress and will hold students accountable for the practice that they put in.
