Overview:
I am a charismatic and kind instructor who's aim is to build my students confidence while working on fundamentals of clarinet performance. I fell in love with clarinet from the moment I picked it up and heard its earthy wooden tones and how beautifully it paired with other instruments. I have dedicated my personal life to music and continue to self educate every day. I intend to help beginning to intermediate students find their voice with clarinet without frustration or anxiety. My classes depend on a students ability and what their musical goals are. Whether it be learning scales, composition, improvisation, vocabulary, playing with a partner, or simply how to get started I am confident that together, we can achieve your goals.
EXPERIENCE
I began teaching in 2003 at my high school during an arts funding crisis that left band students to have sporadic lessons, since we had had an exceptional teacher previously we persevered and excelled in a student-led environment. Luckily by our senior year we had another extraordinary instructor who helped us win first in our district band final, no small feat considering our schools financial hardships and a concert band consisting of only ten students. This experience made me realize that you can do a lot and learn a lot in small numbers. It also is the reason that I have continued to play and perform in my adult life and share this passion. I have attended and performed in many concert, folk, jazz, polka, bands. I have assisted many peers in learning complicated music as well as taught ages 9 to 18 for middle and high school band assistance.
METHODS USED
For beginning students, I like to focus for the first few weeks on playing scales and songs without written music, and I continue to incorporate learning by at any level. When I begin using written music I use the Accent on Achievement or Essential Elements method (I am also comfortable with other standard elementary methods and would be happy to use whatever method a student's band director is using), which is a good place to start whether or not the student already reads music. For adult students who are just beginning, I recommend the Universal Method, which covers absolutely everything or whatever the student is comfortable with. Once the student has worked through the fundamentals we can begin introducing solo repertoire in whatever style the student is most excited about.
LESSON STYLE
Each student is an individual and learns in a different way. Although I usually use the same or similar materials, I teach them differently to each student. My goal as a teacher is to help my students advance their musical abilities and have fun making music, so the students' goals will guide the direction of the lessons. It's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. If I'm doing my job, my students will get to experience the joy of making music every day of their lives.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
