Overview:
My name is Jacques-Pierre and my profession is cello performance and the teaching of cello performance. I can work with any student between the ages of 7 to 70. My methods include teaching Suzuki Volumes 1 through 10, Dalcroze Eurythmics techniques and the scale system by Janos Starker and Hans Jensen. I am also a vigorous classical performer and have various performances scheduled in Maryland State under an O1 artist Visa. My performance career are managed by Chamber Encounters, Concert Artist of Baltimore and Friends of Chamber Music Concert Series. I also play with the Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra and the Mid Atlantic Symphony Orchestra. I have embarked on a major solo career when I was 18 years and won several music completions performing solo, chamber and even concertos with orchestra. Teaching forms part of my passion to perform and the two activities compliment each other which benefits the student as he receives training straight from the stage so to speak.
EXPERIENCE
My experience in teaching dates back about 5 years ago. As a foreigner who was invited to study and perform cello in Baltimore since 2010 my perspective on developing students has significantly increased and I have reached a special understanding of what kind of journey a cello student embarks on. Some are embarking on it because of natural talent, others because of an interest in the cello itself, some because they have a voice or inner message that needs to be expressed, and more! It is my dream to guide each students in his own way to his own truth and special ability that makes him unique and can portray that uniqueness through learning and performing music on the cello.
METHODS USED
My methods are mainly focused on the Suzuki books. I can thouroughly demonstrate each song in Suzuki book 1 to 10 and I lead the student from the beginning to the end of the coarse if the student is willing to commit to it. If not then I will lead the student to new materials outside of the Suzuki books that can be fun. I specialize in film tunes transposed for cello such as Harry Potter, Star Wars, Gladiator, Pirates of the Caribbean etc. however for those who prefer the traditional classical road, I may teach specific Baroques dances from the Solo Suites by Johan Sebastian Bach, Mozart, Haydn and Beethoven. I also teach scales and intonation which are very important aspects of my lessons.
LESSON STYLE
My teaching style is to focus on the natural talent of the student and build on that. Each student has different strong and weak points and each student works at a different pace. My job is to motivate the student into becoming a confident cellist and a hard worker. Discipline, strong work ethic, consistency, and attention to detail are key factors in becoming a good cellist. And understanding the basic elements of cello playing is a very important requirement in my class. These would include pulse, intonation, posture, scales and arpeggios, listening, and sight reading. These basic elements are then to be applied to a piece of the suzuki books or other studies.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
