Overview:
I started playing clarinet in the school band at age six.  My father was a musician, and he thought that playing in the school band would help me overcome my extreme shyness. I remember my first music lesson.  I really liked my teacher.  He came to my house, and he helped me to care for my clarinet and make some sounds on it.  I thought playing the clarinet was wonderful.  Once in awhile my mom would have to urge me to practice, but I was so drawn to playing the clarinet from the start that I would practice a lot on my own.   I was the youngest member of the grade school band, but my music lessons helped me to keep up with the older kids.  I had found a niche, and my niche helped me open up to other students in school and make friends.   I participated in band programs through middle school and high school. In middle school I began studying saxophone and flute so I could play in the jazz band.  As a high school junior and senior I also got the opportunity to play in the Denver University Concert Band, and I was first chair clarinet in Colorado All-State Band and Orchestra.   I attended the University of Denver on a swimming scholarship as an Accounting Major and Music Minor.  I was first clarinet in the 1st Infantry Army Band at Ft. Meade, Maryland and then I toured Europe as first chair flute in the 3rd Army Band based in Wurzburg, Germany.  I was honorably discharged after a three year tour.  I returned to the states and enrolled in Metropolitan State College as a Music Performance Major.   I started teaching and playing professionally during college and have done so ever since.  In the course of my career I have performed with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra (CSO) on clarinet and saxophone, on second clarinet with the Central City Opera, and as a soloist for the Littleton and Jefferson Symphony Orchestras on clarinet and saxophone. I have performed on woodwinds for the Denver Center for the Performing Arts, the Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities and the Denver Municipal Band.  I have played shows at the Boulder Dinner Theater, the Country Dinner Playhouse, the Littleton Town Hall Center for the Arts, the Schwayder Theater, and the new Lone Tree Center for the Arts and with PHAMLY (the Physically Handicapped Actors & Musical Artists League) and Magic Moments.   I have played professionally many styles of music (jazz, blues, pop, ethnic, klezmer, polkas) for clubs, parties, weddings, and concerts with the Benny Goodman Band, Tommy Dorsey Band, Jay Wieder Dance Orchestra, Moments Notice, Rave Reviews, and Ad Hoc Entertainment in big band, quartet, trio and duo settings.   I have been featured on many CDs for such artists as Mary Stribling, Georgeann Low, Neil Haverstick, Big Junior, Scott Smith, Martha Yordy and Ben Cohen.   I also perform concerts and record with Combo Amazo, a band that plays original jazz, blues, bluegrass, and klezmer.  We were featured on the several NPR radio shows including E-town with Richie Havens. I lead a strolling duo on clarinet with guitar that played in the Denver International Airport Concert Series for 20 years and is available for any event.   I decided to teach because I wanted to share the enthusiasm and joy I have for music with students.  I feel passionate about helping develop a child’s talents as a musician. I relate to well kids and can provide an atmosphere where kids are motivated to learn.  I also enjoy teaching adults.   I help the student build good fundamentals.  I customize lessons to define and reach realistic goals and address students’ school band needs or other musical activities.  I respect students’ other interests and pursuits.  I am an experienced professional musician well versed in woodwinds and a variety of styles.  I can offer students a broad spectrum of musical knowledge.  I can teach all levels from a young beginner to an adult professional.  I have given clinics at many local high schools.  I would love to share my skills and expertise with students.

METHODS USED
General teaching philosophy: I help my students build good fundamentals. I can offer individual or group instruction.   I play and teach all types of flutes, clarinets, saxophones, and recorders.  I play and teach baroque flute and Electric Wind Instrument (EWI) to cover double reeds or any other sound you might need. I use high quality Yamaha and Roland synthesizers for my patches.
LESSON STYLE
This depends on the student.  I am an easy going teacher.  I don't believe in applying pressure.  It is my job to get to know the student and find positive ways to help them develop their musical skills. I try to tailor the lesson to meet the students needs. So many things can affect a lesson: the student’s mood, stresses in their life, health and financial problems, social or academic problems at school. I teach students from ages five to seventy five with their own age, style, and abilities. Each lesson out of necessity must be special. I love to teach music and am a lifelong student myself.

I took up clarinet in my 40s. I'd played a different instrument seriously in high school, so I came to Harry with some understanding of music, but none about clarinet. Harry has been the perfect teacher for my personal situation -- like all great teachers, he has a great feel for teaching to each student's particular level. He's an easygoing teacher, but he also knows exactly when a student needs to be challenged. And he's incredibly flexible in terms of scheduling. I'd give Harry a six-star rating if I could.

Harry has been my daughter's saxophone and clarinet teacher for 3 years. Harry is patient, encouraging, and makes lessons fun. He is also a serious musician and has helped my daughter progress in both jazz and classical sax and clarinet. I would highly recommend Harry to any woodwind student.

Harry is a masterful instructor for my son with the Alto Sax and Flute. Harry has been Luke's instructor for over 6 years and is great! Luke has been invited to Honor Band, All-State band and Harry has contributed to this greatly! Luke is not pursuing a degree in Music, but will continue playing with ensembles when he goes to college in the fall of 2021. We would recommend Harry for any age and all of the instruments that he is instructing.

Harry G. was my introduction to music. Starting when I was 11, Harry was my primary saxophone teacher. Little did I know, the lessons I had with Harry would help guide me into choosing music as my undergraduate degree at the Jackie McLean school of Jazz. My time with Harry illustrated his care and passion for music beyond a shadow of a doubt. Anyone who has a lesson with him would surely feel the same.

Harry is a great instructor and an amazing clarinetist! I was worried that I am starting a little late to learn a new instrument (I was in my late 20s when I started taking classes from him). He actually helped me get over that fear and made learning easy. He has a great attitude and approach to teaching that I felt comfortable and confident that I can learn to play a new instrument at any age! He was pretty flexible with class hours and locations. He also gave me supplemental resources (applications, books, videos etc.) to practice on my own and keep me engaged in learning. He also has a great knowledge of world music. I have a Middle Eastern background and wanted to play music from that region and he was very helpful on that as well. I cannot recommend him enough.

We have been working with Mr. Harry G. for at least 6 yrs. My Son started Alto saxophone early 5th grade and is now high school. My son has been in, and is currently in the local high school Marching Band, competing with other highschools and colleges, along with the traditional Wind Ensemble. This year he started Jazz band playing Tenor Sax. My son currently plays both Alto and Tenor saxophone, thanks to a great teacher. Mr. G is a very talented, caring, compassionate teacher who is patient, and sincerely dedicated to the success of his students. He is truly a kind man and we would certainly recommend his expertise for those interested in Clarinet or Saxophone.

It took a while for me to find a principal clarinet instructor for my son after moving to Colorado from Texas. Harry put my son at ease and helped him continue to develop his clarinet skill. Harry also helped my son to learn tenor saxophone, so he could play jazz. We have had on-line lessons since March 2020, and the level of instruction is excellent.

Three years ago, my daughter started playing the clarinet in her middle school band program. After four months, she was completely lost and had no idea what she was doing. She needed help, so we found Harry and started weekly lessons with him. With his patient guidance, she progressed to the point where she earned first chair by the end of the school year. This year, she is one of two freshmen who made it into the audition-only Symphonic Winds band. Harry is wonderful with her, and she has blossomed under his instruction. He is an amazing person who obviously has a love for both the clarinet and teaching. He is always kind, courteous, and helpful to my daughter and me. It has been a pleasure to work with him, and we hope to continue for a long time. I definitely recommend Harry to anyone who needs clarinet lessons.

Harry started teaching my son more than two years ago. As of that time my son had been playing the clarinet for several years. Harry has helped him expand his clarinet fluency while also showing him new skills and music that matches his interests. Harry encouraged my son to try the saxophone, to give him more opportunities to play jazz, one of his favorite music styles. Harry's encouragement has allowed my son to be an active member of his school's jazz band and to be confident that when he has challenging music assignments, Harry will help him develop the competence needed.
