Overview:

I was trained in classical piano as I participated in the Royal Conservatory of Music, and completed my piano syllabus in 2007. Although classical piano was my main area of focus during the years of training, I have thence learned to enjoy many other genres and have become quite the avid learner myself, as I love to delve into eclectic musicians of all sorts whenever I can. I have previously taught piano for 1 year and have immensely enjoyed that experience.

Aside from my musical passions, I have spent most of my career as a junior UX developer living in New York, India and Korea after attending Parsons, The New School for Design in NYC. I have also spent many years traveling and have been blessed to meet many talented musicians along the way - and many here in Humboldt County as well! I look forward to expanding my horizons here in Humboldt while focusing and growing deeper into my love and curiosity for music all together.

EXPERIENCE

My one year of experience teaching piano, albiet brief was tremendously fun and memorable for me. I learned that I love to teach! And really get to know the students on a deep musical level. I felt as though I was moreso guiding my students into further exploring their depths and passions for the extraordinary musical gifts each of them had and also loved to bring the joy in playing piano and making music. I would say the most memorable thing about teaching was how the students took ownership of their styles and instead of just learning to play the keys and tunes, each made the pieces they played their own. I absolutely loved watching their passion grow perpetually alongside their excitement to learn more!

METHODS USED

For students who wish to be trained on a technical level, I highly value the structure of the Royal Conservatory of Music. They provide quite the extensive and fundamental material to the development and progression of music study. This program is one of the largest and most respected institutions in the world of music and is great for all students who wish to play in any genre of music. It also suggests quite an excellent standard in its curriculum and assessment and also stands as a strong platform for performance training and musical events to boost morale and enhance musicianship. I am open to my teaching methods however as it mainly comes down to the students’ goals and what they wish to achieve through the lessons. All in all, I hope to establish a constructive yet fun environment to fill the teaching-learning experiences.

LESSON STYLE

My teaching style varies among the students as each student is uniquely different from one another as well as having different learning goals. I always encourage to set these goals however, and truly enjoy being part of the journey the students take to reach them. I think of music as being one of the greatest luxuries in our lives and an infinite source of creative inspiration. I believe that the success and the joy of every musician lie in their passion for music. With that being said, I strive to bring out and help develop these passions in every student and I love to learn how each student is inspired, how they progress, and what my role can be in furthering their progression in musical training.
