I began taking violin and piano around the age of 9 years. I continued studying through private lessons. Later I studied at the Hartt School of Music, University of Hartford. I have played in numerous ensembles including the Colchester Civic Orchestra (concertmaster), Hartt Early Music Ensemble, Hartt Chamber, Chapel Hill Philharmonia, Chapel Hill Chamber Players, White Iris Light Ópera Orchestra and Good Shepherd Chamber Players. I am currently violinist in the Southcoast Symphony Orchestra and also in the violin-guitar Jazz duo Tesoro which plays throughout the Southeast United States. I am an active member of the Charleston music community. I play piano as accompanist for my students in concerts, recitals, and fine arts competitions as well as musical theatre and Blues/Jazz Jams.
i have taught violin, piano, viola and flute since 2002. I have taught both children and adults, in studios, in students' homes and in schools. My students compete in fine arts competitions, prepare for auditions, take part in recitals and have opportunities to play in ensembles of many musical styles. I also give my students recording opportunities. I use Suzuki as well as other methods. I teach all genres of music including classical, jazz, blues, pop, Latin and Celtic. Group lessons are also available.
I have experience teaching Suzuki violin and piano. I also use other popular methods such as All for Strings, Doflein, and Piano Adventures. I am very willing to use other methods a student may prefer or has already been working on. I supplement any method with pieces of music of particular interest to the student. I have experience with classical music and can teach other genres such as jazz, Latin and popular music, according to the interests of the particular student.
Each student is different, having different interests, goals, and musical backgrounds. I approach each student differently, catering to his or her particular needs. Each student is required to learn the basics and then I supplement the course of study with musical pieces that the student wants to play. This helps to keep the student motivated. I also encourage my student to participate in concerts and recitals as much as possible, as having a goal to work towards helps a student do better.
Gina is very supportive and encouraging. Even though I get frustrated with my progress, she can tell that I've been practicing and reminds me of how far I've come. She challenges me to learn new skills without giving me a piece that I cannot master (with practice). I'm happy that she is my music teacher and look forward to many more lessons in the future.
