Overview:
I am a devoted, lifelong musician who loves to work with children of all ages. I have performed across the East Coast and participated in music festivals and competitions for both solo and group performance. In 2012, I graduated Kings Park High School, where I held office at our chapter of the Tri-M Music Honor Society, the position of drum major in the marching band, and section leader for the Symphonic Wind Orchestra. I went on to complete three years of undergraduate at the University of Massachusetts, and then transferred to Mercy College in order to pursue a degree in Music Production and Audio Engineering. My talents in teaching are focused on trumpet and piano performance, as well as other brass instruments and rudimentary guitar. I have professional teaching experience from my time at Sonis Music School in Yonkers, New York, where I taught trumpet, piano, and group sessions including voice, drums, keyboard, brass, and guitar. I also worked as the music specialist at Great Neck Park District in the summer of 2016, expanding my experience to include working with children as young as 3 and as old as 17, with their musical experience ranging from beginner to advanced. Over my years as a student, performer, and teacher, I have learned which techniques are effective, and how to tailor these techniques specifically for each student. I believe that it is essential to gauge each student individually and create a plan that will work for them. I integrate ideas of music theory together with musical performance and technique, along with stimulating the students' creativity and bringing all of these concepts together. It is of utmost importance to build their confidence and independence in order to reach their full potential as a successful musician.
EXPERIENCE
My professional teaching experience begins in 2016, at Sonis Music School in Yonkers. However, I have been teaching privately since 2009. I have taught trumpet, trombone, euphonium, piano, guitar, drums, keyboard, voice, and bass. At Sonis Music School, I had three private students along with a large group session of pop/rock. In the summer of 2016, I worked at Great Neck Park District as the music specialist. In this position, I worked with many students of different ages and musical experience.
METHODS USED
My methods, of course, depend on the student themselves. At any level, I always make sure to emphasize the importance of the basics; scales, chords, exercises of technique and physical ability. In addition, I include theory practices that extend the usefulness and relevance of these basic skills. With the fundamentals and theory, a solid foundation is built to begin adding more advanced concepts of musical style, technique, and originality. I often ask my students what their end goal is, and start from there. For example, a student who wishes to play rock/pop music would find it useless to learn Mozart and Chopin; therefore, we begin learning pop techniques rather than classical.
