I’ve had a great passion for music since an early age. I use my passion as a tool to provide great energy into my music lessons. The student’s experience in the lesson is very important to me so I do whatever I can to make it easy and comfortable for the student learn and have fun at the same time. I began my vocal training in middle school, continued in high, and I am currently working on a degree in Music Education with a concentration in vocal. I have traveled to Carnegie Hall and the Bahamas to perform. I am currently working on a studio Gospel album. I want my students to remember that there is nothing impossible for them musically.
My teaching experience began at the age of 16 when I began directing the Youth Choir at my church. It was then when my passion for teaching vocals was born. After graduating high school continued to nurture my passion by attending college. I was offered a paid internship in 2010 but in 2011 I became ill which caused a pause in my educational career but recently I have returned to. During my recuperation I was still able to successfully guide many students to a brighter world of music and singing.
My main is to educate my students but at the same time make it fun for them. I know that individuals have their own style so I allow my students to choose what style of songs they would like to sing. On the flip side of that I teach my students music theory in connection with the style of music that they like. I feel it’s important to keep the student engaged. I will also encourage my students to go outside of the box to broaden their repertoire. I believe with doing that the student will understand the importance of versatility. I will meet each student at their own pace and capability.
I usually begin lessons with vocal warms ups before the student actually sing. I allow students to pick their own songs but urge them to practice the song on their own time. During the lesson I will give pointers to the student to help them enhance the song. In the lesson I would want the student to record the lesson so they will have a recording to go back to for studying and reviewing what we went over in the previous lesson. I can not stress how rewarding it is for the student to study and review everyday what we have gone over in the previous lessons. My goal is to build the student’s confidence but they must do their part by practicing daily.
