Hello! I am a piano teacher and musician living in Helena, MT. I graduated from Berklee College Of Music in Boston, MA in 2009 with a focus on piano performance. I've spent almost my entire life either taking piano lessons or teaching them and I still love it. My very first piano lessons were at age 6. I had no idea this once a week after school activity would lead to everything in my whole life! I've played many concerts, recitals, and shows with various bands over the years. I hope to teach and play music for many years to come!
I started teaching music when I was in High School (I'm 34 now) back in Montana with just one student. Quickly this student told his buddies at school and soon I had 8 students in my studio! When I moved to Boston to attend Berklee College of Music I focused on my studies and didn't teach but I resumed in 2009 upon graduating and haven't stopped since. I take a great joy in helping students learn about what I'm so passionate about. In my lessons we start with some quick warm ups then dive into pieces ranging from Alfreds and Suzuki Method to Beatles, Beyonce, Bach and more. I love all styles of music and one of my main goals is to show my students all the different musical worlds out there.
My students learn a lot of valuable information right from the very first lessons. We work towards building up a repertoire of songs they can really play from memory. I teach a vast array of styles and genres. Everything from beginner Suzuki to Chopin pieces that are over 10 minutes long! I also enjoy songwriting, lyric writing, ear training, and studying harmony. I won't pass over the core subjects of sight reading, repertoire, and technique. I also encourage my students to come to lessons with piece or songs that they like on a personal level.
Each week I expect my students to practice when they can and we talk about how much is expected of each one based on their level and available time each week. I am most certainly relaxed and fun during lessons but I want them to get as much out of the time we have together as possible. There is really no secret, as with most things in life, the more time you spend on something the better you will get at that thing. The real trick is getting students to love practicing and music just for the sheer joy of it. Takes a while but you can get there!
Wonderful teacher! Perfect match for my son. Very patient and kind. I am very happy thus far.
