Overview:

I am a dedicated and hard working teacher . My objective is to share my love for music through education. In 2016, I graduated from Simpson College with a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance. I've performed in numerous operas, competitions, and events. Having these opportunities has helped influence my life and continue my growth as a performer and educator. Performing is still a vital part of my career as I continue to teach lessons. I believe it is important for teachers to practice what they teach!

EXPERIENCE

During my four years at Simpson College, I was able to perform in several operas, convocations, recitals, and competitions. In 2015, I won first place in the Regional NATS competition with the opportunity to advance to Nationals. After I graduated from Simpson College, I was immediately hired at Dove Science Academy to teach music for middle and high school students. During this time, I continued to teach private lessons as well. These experiences have helped develop my teaching style for private lessons. My students will have a voice teacher that understands what it takes to be successful. The lessons will be taught at their pace. Every student has a different learning ability and my job is to meet their ability and help them surpass it in a fun, enjoyable environment. If a student is not enjoying what they are doing, I am not doing my job!

METHODS USED

For my students, I like to start with repertoire appropriate to their voice type. I will work with each student on pitch, tone color and quality, diction, and breath support. Things will be taken at the pace of the singer. Generally, opera arias will be saved for students above intermediate level. For children, I will not give opera arias because of the level of difficulty and extensive damage that can be done to the vocal chords in doing so. Each student will have music designated for their level of singing and technique will be established and built for proper, healthy singing. As they grow vocally, their music will grow in difficulty. Every student is encouraged to compete in vocal competitions and audition for any and all music organizations holding shows such as Tulsa Youth Opera!

LESSON STYLE

Every student is unique! Working with them is a privilege and their lessons must place priority on their comfort. Music is something to enjoy and love. My goal as a teacher is to ensure my students are growing vocally in a fun, healthy way. I want these lessons to be something they look forward to. The music they sing should be to their liking. As they grow, they will feel accomplished and driven towards success, which will help them in everyday life. I strive to keep my students dedicated and hard working!
