Overview:
I’m a recent graduate from Tarleton State University with a BA in Music and a private lesssons teacher. I have taught private lessons for trumpet for about 4 years from students in the Dublin/Stephenville area in Texas. Performing music is a way to express yourself and bare your soul for everyone to see. I want my students to know what that feels like; it is my goal to help students truly enjoy playing their instrument for themselves. I have performed at Carnegie Hall in New York, the National Trumpet Competition in Colombus, Georgia, and have toured Italy with the Tarleton State Jazz Ensemble.
EXPERIENCE
I have taught private trumpet lessons for about 4 years in the Dublin/Stephenville area. I feel the best way to approach an instrument like the trumpet is to have steady warmups, technical studies (Clarke, Small, Arbans) with elements like flexibility, tone studies, and calisthenics; and of course, literature. I am very experienced with trumpet literature spanning from beginner to advanced. I teach classical as well as jazz trumpet, and believe that they intertwine and it is helpful to practice a piece in different styles to better acclimate to the piece. I love motivating my students and encourage practicing in order to become a better musician.
METHODS USED
For beginning students, I normally start with Essential Elements then move onto Schlossberg and Irons for tone and flexibility; then I start them on the Clarke studies 1st and 2nd studies. I emphasize finger exercises, flexibility, tone, and sight reading. Once the student is advanced enough I start teaching appropriate literature. For adults, I assess their level, and adjust to them, as well as introduce more difficult exercises and literature for them. It’s important to emphasize the concept of constructive practicing rather than playing the same thing a bunch of times and quitting. I like to talk during lessons and understand what my students are going through in order to have a relaxed lesson session.
LESSON STYLE
The way I approach music is motivating the student to care about their practicing and to enjoy it. Moreso, to enjoy playing and performing the trumpet in a healthy way! I set a reasonable pace for my students as well as challenge them. I set goals for them as well as log in practice times to make sure they are getting all of the practice they need! I also am very adamant in recognizing students’ accomplishments and making them feel completely comfortable so they enjoy playing the trumpet and enjoy practice time. It is so important to motivate students as some students (like me in high school) have trouble practicing and performing like they need to. I want private lessons to be my students’ favorite part of their day, as well as it is for mine!

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
