Overview:
I have always had a great passion for music since at the young age of seven and one of my favorite memories as a pianist was when I succeeded in playing one of my favorite songs by memory. My first piano teacher, Maria Elvira Cambra, whom I was with many years, was truly an inspiration and I was featured with her in a newspaper article with a superior plus top rating for an excellent performance. Accomplishing the highest scores promotion for piano instruction were fulfilled for all prescribed requirements from Wagner Music Conservatory, Inc. I was accepted in various church choirs for piano accompaniment by ear and sight reading with incorporated improvisation as well as in the church youth groups. While I was teaching at Henry M. Flagler Elementary School in Miami, FL for a few years I planned student projects and music school functions for children ages five to eight. Learning various playing styles enables a pianist to enjoy and play in any genre by incorporating different styles to invent his or her masterpiece to call their own. I was a part of GMYS, Greater Miami Youth Symphony and assisted in the Orchestra. Throughout my teaching experiences, I have been fortunate to help in any way that I can with commitment in contributing to the student’s success, which in the end is the most rewarding feeling.
EXPERIENCE
As a Piano Instructor, I have provided music instruction in piano and theory for Pre-K and Elementary level students. Prepared lesson plans, tutored students, processed tests and homework assignments. Established a reward system and provided positive reinforcement to motivate, maintain students focused, eager to learn and progress. While I was teaching at Henry M. Flagler Elementary School in Miami, FL for a few years I planned student projects and assisted with music school functions for children ages five to eight. Well organized and able to develop positive relationships with parents, students and teachers to ensure success of students and schools.
METHODS USED
I typically start with John Thompson's Piano Course books by levels amongst other methods as well. I will try to find out what interests the student has in learning various playing styles. I will usually begin by teaching beginners the music alphabet and identification of keys amongst other material and beginning music theory. Advise on the proper way for hand position. Also beginning to play songs and transition into reading the notes on the staff as the student progresses. I provide positive reinforcement to motivate, maintain students focused and eager to learn in order to progress.
LESSON STYLE
Learning various playing styles enables a pianist to enjoy and play in any genre by incorporating different ways to invent his or her own masterpiece. The most rewarding feeling is to see a student develop a passion for music and it is important that each progresses at his or her own pace. I like to find out what the student in is interested in and then customize also according to what inspires them. Throughout my teaching experiences, I have been fortunate to help in any way that I can with commitment in contributing to the student's success.
