ABOUT
Degrees / Training / Special Info:
BM, East Tennessee State University, Music Education (Currently enrolled)
Overview:
My name is Easton, I am an aspiring musician and a student of East Tennessee State University. When I was 6 years of age, I thought I was just playing the piano for fun until later in my adolescence when I realized that music is the only thing I want to pursue. Initially, I was attending the University of California- Riverside to pursue a Bachelor of Art in Music General, but I've decided to transfer to East Tennessee State University to pursue a Bachelor of Music in Music Education and also because I want to get to explore the music of the Appalachian Region. I've been playing the piano for more than 10 years. I was classically trained on the piano, but I can play a variety of genres including pop, Blue, folk, romantic music, and art songs. Besides the piano, I also have been the acoustic guitar for almost 10 years. On the guitar, I play primarily folk, Americana, pop, Rock, and Bluegrass; however, my most favorite instrument is the mandolin. I've been playing the mandolin for a little over 6 years, but because I can play the guitar, my transition to the mandolin was not difficult. On the mandolin, I primarily play Bluegrass, Old-Time, and Classical music.
EXPERIENCE
I began teaching when I was 18 years old. I began teaching in the Inland Empire area in Southern California, a region 50 miles away from Los Angeles. I traveled regularly to my students and helped them with their own musical goals by guiding them through many music lessons. I had most experience teaching the piano because I was trained on the piano for a long time. While most of my students are very young, I had experience teaching older students as well. As an instructor, I understand that each student is unique, and each student requires a lot of attention.
METHODS USED
My methods of teaching vary depending on the level of each student. For a beginner piano student, I will have the student getting familiarized with notes. I will have the student play various songs suitable for his or her level. I like to divide each student into different levels from 1 to 10. John Thompson's Modern Course for Piano is my primary book. Thompsons' Modern Course for Piano is a series of 10 books with book 1 being level 1 and book 10 being level 10. In addition to Thompson's series, I also like to use Czerny' s School of Velocity for more intermediate students and Czerny's Practical Method for Beginners on the Pianoforte for beginner students. On the guitar, the ukulele, and the mandolin, I do not have a specific book for each level. Unlike the piano, I will only divide my students into two levels: Beginner, and Intermediate (instead of from level 1 to level 10). Just like the piano, I will be teaching a lot of theories along with songs. Because of the genres that I play, you will hear me use the term "flat-picking" a lot. Acoustic guitar and mandolin are flat-picking instruments, so I will be showing you how to properly play those instruments with a plectrum (a pick). Acoustic guitar and mandolin are not conservatory instruments like the piano or the violin, so I will give students more freedom on what he or she wants to play.
LESSON STYLE
I am known for being very sociable to my students, and I am not a strict instructor. I think it is important for me to understand that each student has his or her own pace, and I need to respect that. One thing I always want to make sure of is the student needs to like what he or she is learning. Many students do not know if they like the instrument they are learning or not until much later, so I always try to make the lessons as easy as possible for the students. Many students enjoy an understanding instructor, and that's who I am. I am the kind of instructor that you can talk to.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
