I am a passionate violinist and teacher who loves music in all its forms and finds music as an essential part of an integral education. Music has brought so much to my own life that I want to share this with students eager to learn. I have been playing the violin since I was eight years of age through private lessons, involvement in philharmonic and local orchestras, church orchestras and although I did not graduated in Violin performance I consider myself as a violin performer and music lover. I had the opportunity to play in South America in local musical competitions and played at the Greenville Philharmonic Orchestra in South Carolina. My love for music has also led me to teach Zumba in the community including the joy of putting together excellent playlist and transferring music education to students through dancing and music appreciation.
My teaching experience dates back to thirteen years ago, as I began teaching private lessons in a new music academy that was created in my town. I have been consistently teaching students since then. I like to encourage students to practice on a regular basis and keep them motivated through attending concerts and discussing them, studying the lives of famous musicians and violinists. I think being a great performer is not just about playing the violin but also getting educated in music and arts overall. Through my years of experience teaching I also found that it is very important to study pieces of music that students enjoy and look forward to play. Students need to have fun and enjoy the pieces they are studying to keep their motivation. I enjoy teaching beginners as well as more advanced students and I learn through all of them in different ways. My students are encouraged to learn different genres of music, although the core of my teaching is classical music, I encourage students to play their favorite genre to keep them motivated. I also encourage students to join local musical groups, orchestra and participate in recitals.
For beginning students I start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements of Strings Book 1. I also start with the Suzuki Violin Book 1 to start introducing students with familiar tunes. Once the have progressed and have learned how to hold the violin and the bow and make a good sound, I start introducing repertoire that is recognized and appropriate for their level. For adult students I ask them what genres of music or specific pieces of music they are most interested on learning and start working on those with them. I maintain a notebook with the students where we record weekly what we learn on that specific lesson and what we are going to learn on the following class. Also, we record any reflection that may have on the lesson. I also use a violin scales book and work on scales in every class to work on technique and sound.
Teaching should be tailored to the needs of the student and there are not two students that learn in the same way. Each student progresses in a different way and has different strengths. I listen to the student needs and work with them creating fun ways to learn and that keep them motivated. Students in my classes express they are having fun. I also transferred my love for music to the students sharing about concerts, recitals, and my own musical experiences and how I overcame difficulties to keep them motivated. I also like to set up specific goals for the student and build their confidence with early musical successes.
