I'm a rigorous and passionate instructor who has worked with students for nearly ten years. As a musician of almost two decades I love passing down not only the musical ability, but also the history of music. I am currently perusing an Associate's in Fine Arts and sacred music. I have been the principal organist and choir master for many churches and small groups over the years, but have recently moved here to further my knowledge and the passing of music from me to my new up and coming students.
My teaching experience started while I was in middle school. I began teaching privately as well as tutoring in other studies. While in college I have had few students as I took on the load of three self owned businesses as a piano tuner and technician, a private teacher and a baker. As well as remained a for hire church organist. I accept students of all ages. It's never to early to start and it's never to late to learn. My teaching has stayed in classical and spiritual music since I began teaching.
My methods for beginning students is to see what they already know. If they have only dawdled on the instrument they choose then I start with scales, note names and other very neccessary beginning knowledge. I can't readily say what book I'll start with due to the variation of instruments I teach. Once beginner students have learned fundamental skills we will move to books of solo repertoire and advance from small, easy pieces to longer more complicated works. Lessons should be fun and interactive no matter your age or ability.
My teaching style holds compassion and patience in the forefront. To see a student gain passion for music and music history brings a smile to my face as well as those who support the student. Setting goals and acknowledging accomplishments inspires a student to want to progress and maybe even try other instruments. over the years I've moved the direction of my instruction many times to tailor and fit with my plethora of students and their different ways of learning. My students needs have always come first.
