Overview:
I am a classically trained pianist and composer with an MM and DMA in music composition and had just recently moved to the Phildelphia area.  Composing and performing music has always been my passion and I teach music so I can share that with others.  My music has been performed in the US and Europe and I've played and premiered new music by living composers in concerts and festivals in the US. Recently I've been involved with a startup company that develops educational music software for schools and private use.  I'm also a member of the Philadelphia Music Teachers Association, Pennsylvania Music Teachers Association and the Music Teachers National Association.
EXPERIENCE
I've been giving private piano, composition and music theory lessons for the past six years.  Before that I taught classes at the University level in music theory and electronic music.  I enjoy working with both kids and adults, kids especially since they are so eager to learn new things.  All of my younger students played regularly in recitals and festivals.  As an active member of the Plano Music Teachers Association I organized recitals, helped administer theory, sight-singing and music dictation tests, and was a judge for the local music composition contest.
METHODS USED
I usually use the Piano Adventure series of books for beginning students, since they have a diverse selection of pieces and do an excellent job of introducing funadmentals in a gradual and easy-to-grasp manner.  I work on hand coordination and positioning separately to avoid having to fix bad habits later on.  One of the most important aspects of my teaching is that I teach students to play music that they are interested in, often by writing arrangements of music that they are familiar with.  Keeping my students motivated is one of my top concerns, and I do everything I can to make sure they enjoy each new piece or look and forward to the next recital.
LESSON STYLE
Every student has different goals and is motivated by different things.  Learning a musical instrument is also a complex task involving a variety of skills, and everyone has their strenghts and weaknesses.  This is why I approach each one of my students individually and tailor my lessons to their specific needs.  I emphasize creativity and positive reinforcement while engaging my students to think critically about the materials that my students are working on.  I feel it's important for my younger students to be able make their own informed decisions and for all of my students to develop their own style of playing.

It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
