2014 - Graduated William Paterson University Summa Cum Laude

2014 - Music Scholar Award - William Paterson University

Overview:

I’m a passionate and innovative music educator who enjoys watching students of all ages grow as musicians. I have been making music for over 15 years on saxophone since I started in elementary school and haven’t stopped since. I graduated summa cum laude from William Paterson University in 2014 with a bachelor of music in music education with a concentration in saxophone performance. Throughout college and beyond, I have performed in wind bands, orchestras, community ensembles, saxophone quartets, a gypsy ensemble, and in contemporary cover music groups. I decided to pursue my masters of music in wind conducting at Messiah University and graduated in 2021. I actively perform on saxophone in cover groups and local ensembles and on piano and vocals with my duo. Outside of music, I enjoy being outside, spending summer days on the beach, and cooking.

EXPERIENCE

Since my time in college, I have always had a studio of private students whether it was through personal connections, music stores, or school based lesson programs. My experience also comes from being an instrumental music teacher in various middle and high school music programs in the New Jersey Public Schools. Working with students has allowed me to develop methods and philosophies that will allow students to grow as musicians. I am constantly reflecting on what I can do to improve my teaching and looking for the latest trends and ideas to build upon.

METHODS USED

Upon meeting a student, we will uncover and develop goals for your lessons. For beginners, we will start with the fundamentals of playing and producing sound and then jump into the basics of rhythm and articulation. I will recommend books based on your playing experience and if you have any materials already. For students starting who have playing experience, we will establish what you know and continue forward from there. Books I frequently go with include the Rubank Elementary, Intermediate, and Advanced Method books, Universal Method for Saxophone by Paul DeVille, Practical Studies for Saxophone Book 1 and 2, Voxman Etudes, and Ferling Etudes.

LESSON STYLE

Nothing is more rewarding than seeing my students develop a positive relationship with music. The first step is defining clear goals that address the desires and needs of the student while allowing the student to grow at their own pace. These goals are used to address lesson content as well as planning student practice sessions in between lessons. During lessons, I prefer to use discussions and questions to uncover the intricacies of music and playing an instrument. It is important to celebrate the achievements and tackle the challenges head on as this builds a strong work ethic and growth mindset.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
