In addition, Daniel studies Orchestral Conducting as a Graduate Employee at the University of Oregon School of Music and Dance under the tutelage of Dr. David Jacobs.

EXPERIENCE

I have been teaching beginner to advanced violin students beginning in high school, about 10 years ago, and have continued to do so through my Bachelor's and Master's degrees at New England Conservatory in Boston, MA. I was also a violin section coach for the Boston Philharmonic Youth Orchestra. I enjoy teaching both beginner and advanced violin students; each bring their own challenges and rewards to the learning process. I like to break down the psychological nature of violin-playing and how to use practice time in a way that will maximize growth as quickly as possible.

METHODS USED

For beginning students, I start with the Suzuki Method, a learning tool that I myself was taught as a beginner. Once the student has gained confidence and ease on the instrument, I delve into standard solo repertoire, beginning with Classical era pieces to work on tone, intonation, and bow control, then moving towards more Romantic Era pieces as well as technically advanced show pieces. Throughout all levels, I focus on body control and awareness to maintain relaxation, while still getting power.

LESSON STYLE

My teaching style revolves around guiding each student through the mental process of developing one's music skills, both in a technical and musical sense. I believe everyone is capable of becoming a fantastic violinist, as long as they are shown what to focus on and what to look out for in their own relationship with the violin. Often, students are thrown into the deep end and asked to swim. I am more concerned with teaching each of my students how to observe themselves so that they can make adjustments and improvements based on their own assessments of themselves, rather than just telling each student what to do.
